  • Accurate quarter inch seams
    It is important to be able to sew an accurate 1/4" seam. For many machines you can purchase a machine foot that is exactly 1/4” from the needle to the side of the foot. They are a very useful tool. I have found that many machines, especially older ones, have a foot that is an exact 1/4” so please check and measure the feet that are with your machine before you purchase one. Read more >>

  • Pressing
    For the majority of my seams, I press all seams to one side as shown below. This makes sections butt up together so seams meet accurately. It is also important if you wish to do "Stitch in the Ditch" quilting. Read more >>

  • What is Fusible Webbing?
    Fusible webbing is a sticky bonding that adheres two fabrics together. It comes in many different brands, each being slightly different. Most Fusible webbing have paper on one side, some have paper on both sides, while others have no paper at all. I recommend using one of the fusibles with paper rather than the non-paper fusible when you need to transfer templates. Read more >>

  • Binding
    There are two types of binding I use often in quilt making. Most commonly used is a continuous binding with mitered corner. This method can be done as a single or double binding. The second method is one I use for most wall hangings. It is a straight binding and commonly used for single thickness. This particular method is just as easy as the first and is very similar to adding borders. Read more >>
